The island of Skopelos is defined by lush green forest and the blue of the sea. For this reason the International Organization of Biopolitics, on July the 5th 1997, officially proclaimed it “Green & Blue Island”. There are numerous spectacular and stunning locations for weddings in Skopelos. From the magical rocky outcropping of St. John of the Small Castle to distant, divine chapels and spectacular sandy beaches, Skopelos has it all!

Some of the exquisite venues are displayed here below:

 Skopelos wedding in Town Hall

Skopelos Town or Hóra, on the northern coast, is the capital of the island. Its ancient name was Peparithos, after the son of the god Dionysos and Ariadne, who was the first inhabitant of the island.
The town of Skopelos was honored as a “Traditional Settlement of Outstanding Beauty” (19/10/1978 Presidential Decree 594,13-11/78). This is the Greek equivalent of a site of Outstanding Architectural Inheritance. At the Town Hall your Civil wedding can be hosted.

Skolpelos wedding in Panayitsa of Pyrgos (Virgin Mary old Byzantine church in Skopelos Town castle)

Skopelos old Town or Hóra nestles comfortably on a hill and sprawls around a castle. The medieval Venetian castle with its sweeping views of the Aegean, the stone houses with picture-perfect courtyards, narrow paved streets and a number of Byzantine churches, the town encapsulates the essence of a typical Greek island settlement. In the caste area is found the old Byzantine church Panagitsa of Pyrgos which constitutes a landmark for Skopelos Town. In case of civil wedding, the spacious courtyard with its romantic views is available.

Skopelos wedding in Ai Yiannis at kastri(St.John of the Small Castle)

Aϊ Yiannis at Kastri, a picture-perfect chapel built on the top of a steep rock. Climb up the steps carved into the rock and enjoy a stunning view of the archipelago! The chapel became famous worldwide when the wedding scene from the film “Mamma Mia” was shot there. Ever since the chapel has been a popular choice for young couples planning to getting married. In case of civil wedding, the courtyard with its feast for the eyes view is available.

Episkopi or Episcope

The Episcope, a Venetian building that was supposed to become the seat of the Bishop of Skópelos but remained unfinished due to the invasion of the pirate Barbarossa in 1538. In case of civil wedding, the courtyard with its amazing Bougainvilleas and the medieval excavation findings, is available.

Venetian Castle of Skopelos Town (Hóra)

Is the old part of charming little town with its white-washed houses, red tiled roofs, flowered gardens and balconies. Its many little white churches, narrow streets, alleyways, and climbing stairs, all built on a hillside. Set against a backdrop of spectacular views of the forest covered mountains tumbling down to the clean beaches. There lots of open air places and cozy corners which may host your Civil wedding ceremony.

Anatoli Ouzeri (Sun Rise tavern) on the top of the Venetian Castle.

It’s the very top place of the Venetian Castle. It enjoys spectacular views of the old town, the azure bay, the National Marine Park and Alonissos island. It’s open-air area is available for civil and symbolic wedding ceremonies.

The second main town of Skopelos is a picturesque village of 1,200 people with a stunning position high over the sea. There are ruins in Glossa dating from 400 BC as well as Byzantine walls to poke about in. The traditional village way of life has so far managed to stand fast against the annual and ever growing influx of visitors and the place oozes charm, unlike the drab port of Loutraki below. The houses are mostly two storey with wooden balconies and the fields are full of plum and almond trees . This unspoiled mountain village is wonderfully quaint and perfect for experiencing true Greek island life. The sunset is spectacular and composes a most romantic place for your wedding.
